Please note: Referrals to our mentoring programme are open for 2024

If you would like to make a referral for a young person there are a few points to consider:

1- Is the young person aged 8-18

2- Has the young person been struggling with isolation and loneliness, struggling with low confidence or self-esteem, is a young carer, experienced  Adverse Childhood Experiences, been struggling with the education system, been having challenges with home life, found social relationships difficult and are they having a hard time with their mental health.

3- Do they live in the London Borough of Southwark. (We are currently supporting young people in Southwark and will prioritise those who are in and around the SE5 area. Camberwell, Peckham, Walworth, Bermondsey)

4- When submitting the referral form please be aware that we will need to have a conversation with the professional involved to gain some context which will help us assess if we are the right service for that young person.

5- Is this something the young person wants to engage with? Have you asked them?

Step Out Mentoring is a program for children and young people age 8-18 years old.

  • Each young person we work with is matched up with a trained mentor who will meet them regularly to start to build a relationship.
  • There is a focus on meeting up for fun engaging activities that are led by the young person. These are encouraged to be outside and active as much as possible.
  • Our mentors commit to the programme for 6-12 months. They meet with their matched child every week for 2 hours. The sessions take place outside of home and school time and in a public space.

WHAT WE OFFER

PLUS THIS

GroupWorkshops

Come and learn a skill together with your mentor like music production, bike mechanics, cooking and loads more.

Family Celebrations

Time to celebrate all that has been happening and invite your family along. This could be a BBQ or family sports day.

Trips and residentials

We will be arranging regular trips out, and have some links with some great residential centres in the countryside.

We love for the young people to take ownership over these elements – this is an important part of empowering them with responsibility – so you will often see young people leading events and inputting into the project.

YES PLEASE

We love to support all young people but realise some young people need a little bit more support then others at times in their lives. So if you are, or know a young person who is becoming disengaged in life and education, needs a positive role model, lacking in confidence and struggling with isolation please do contact us to see if we can arrange a mentor. Please complete the young person's referral from and return it to Step Out.
